Will checking my free credit report via MoneyHero negatively affect my credit score?

No, checking your own credit report for personal review through services like the MoneyHero x TransUnion collaboration will not negatively impact your credit score. This type of inquiry is solely for your information and is not visible to lenders.

Only "hard inquiries," which occur when you apply for new credit (like a credit card or loan) and a lender pulls your report, can have a minor, temporary effect on your score. However, these are a necessary part of the credit application process.

How often should I check my credit report, and what should I look for?

It's recommended to check your credit report regularly, ideally at least once a year. This helps you:

Monitor for errors: Ensure all information is accurate and up-to-date. Mistakes can negatively impact your credit score. If you find any errors, you have the right to dispute them directly with TransUnion.

Understand your financial health: See how your repayment habits and credit utilization are affecting your score, and identify areas for improvement.

Prepare for future financial applications: By knowing your current credit standing, you can take proactive steps to improve it before applying for major loans or credit cards.

How do you protect my personal data?
  • Data transmission: We use industry-standard encryption (such as TLS/SSL) when transmitting your personal information to TransUnion. All data exchanges are encrypted end-to-end using securely managed keys with regular rotation to ensure the confidentiality and integrity of your information during transfer.
  • Data access: Access is limited to employees and processors who need it to provide the services; those parties are contractually bound to keep such data confidential.
  • Data minimisation: We only transfer data that is required for identity verification and credit retrieval.
What should I do if I find incorrect information on my credit report?

Since the credit report you view on MoneyHero is directly provided by TransUnion, if you find any inaccurate or outdated information, you'll need to directly dispute it with TransUnion and request a correction.

How do I get support if I have questions or issues?

If you experience login issues, technical problems with your Credit Hero account, or need to update your personal details within the Credit Hero service, please contact our dedicated support team at creditheroclub@support.moneyhero.com.hk.

For any inquiries directly related to your credit report, credit score rating, or if you need to update personal details on your TransUnion credit report itself, you'll need to contact TransUnion directly for assistance. They are the custodians of your credit data.

What will my information be used for?
    • In order to verify your identity and provide you with free access to your credit profile supplied by TransUnion, we may be required to share limited personal information with TransUnion. This may include:
      • Full name
      • Date of birth
      • Hong Kong Identity Card (if required)
      • Contact details (email, phone) or any photo images, videos or documents containing the same.
  • TransUnion may access all or part of your consumer credit data, which may be held in TransUnion’s database from time to time, against the information provided by you, for the purposes of providing you with access to the services and verifying your identity.
  • We will disclose to TransUnion only the information and data necessary for TransUnion to verify your identity and provide access to your credit profile.
What does TransUnion do with my personal data?
  • TransUnion will use your information to verify your identity and to retrieve and supply your credit profile to you via our platform.
  • TransUnion’s use and retention of data are governed by TransUnion’s privacy policy and by applicable laws in Hong Kong (including the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance (PDPO)). We recommend you review TransUnion’s privacy policy at https://www.transunion.hk/legal/privacy-policy for details about their practices.
What information do you receive or collect from TransUnion and how will you use it?
  • By using our services and obtaining free access to your credit profile, TransUnion will obtain and transfer to MoneyHero all or part of your consumer credit data which may be held in TransUnion’s “Credit Data Smart” database and/or other data in TransUnion’s database(s) from time to time. This includes but is not limited to (1) CreditVision Score; (2) Credit summary including revolving loan, term loan and credit card; (3) Score factors; (4) six-month score trending; (5) Credit account data; and (6) Credit alerts.
  • We will only use your data obtained from TransUnion to provide you with (1) your credit profile, as long as you have not opted out or unsubscribed from the platform, (2) personalised recommendations, suggestions and notices in relation to your credit data, (3) credit education, customized recommendations and personalized offers of the products and services available through us and/or our business partners/ affiliates, and (4) any other purposes directly relating to the foregoing purposes. 
  • We will not use your data that is received from TransUnion for any purposes other than those set out above.
How long is my data retained for? Can I request deletion of my data?
  • We retain records of information shared with TransUnion for as long as necessary to fulfil the service, to meet legal or regulatory obligations, and for fraud prevention and dispute resolution.
  • We will use your credit data obtained from TransUnion only for the purposes set out above. After its initial processing, we do not retain the details of your actual credit report. The data is securely stored for up to 24 hours and then permanently deleted. We may keep only a derived version of this data to the extent necessary to provide our services to you. The entire process is jointly monitored and audited by both parties to ensure data security and compliance. Any credit data provided to us by TransUnion is processed solely within our systems and is not disclosed to other third parties.
  • If you request deletion of information held by us, we will delete or anonymize your personal data where legally permitted and where retention is not required for legal or legitimate business reasons. If you request deletion of such information, we may not be able to provide the services to you.
How can I manage my consent and data?
  • We will only share your personal information with TransUnion if you explicitly consent for us to do so. 
  • You can withdraw your consent at any time by contacting us (see below). Withdrawal of consent may mean that you will no longer be able to access your credit profile through the Credit Hero platform.
    • You have the right to:
      • Request access to personal data we hold about you;
      • Request correction of inaccurate personal data that we hold;
      • Request deletion of your personal data, subject to legal exceptions.
